Paragon Medical Inc., a precision contract manufacturer supporting the global orthopaedic medical device industry, recently hosted the Parkview Samaritan team in its Bioskills Lab in Pierceton, IN for a three day educational cadaveric lab in recognition of EMS week which was May 17-23. National EMS Week was authorized by President Gerald Ford in 1973 to recognize the important work that our nation's EMS professionals do in responding to medical emergencies.

On May 18th, Paragon Medical's Bioskills Lab welcomed Dr. Chris Bridgwater, D.O., Medical Director of Parkview Samaritan and the highly recognized Samaritan flight and MICU crews, for an initial training lab in preparation for their three day event. Over the course of the next three days, pre-hospital professionals from the surrounding area attended educational cadaveric labs, led by the Samaritan team, affording participants hands on experience. The central location of the lab drew in first responders from DeKalb, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Fulton and multiple other counties for this unique learning opportunity.

Some of the sessions, which lasted two hours each, included needle decompression, humeral interosseous IV, and different intubation techniques, just to name a few. Participants also received an internal anatomy lesson which allowed them to explore the details of the internal organs. All of these things provided invaluable practical experience, expanding everyone's knowledge and skills.

"We were excited to partner with Paragon Medical for our event. The Bioskills Lab was centrally located and provided a clean, comfortable, non-competitive and professional environment that was conducive for our training," commented Dr. Bridgwater. "We also utilized the Lab's camera system to capture the sessions for future training opportunities," he added.

"Paragon Medical was proud to partner with Parkview in support of this initiative for EMS week and the work of the first responders. We recognize the commitment they have made, the importance of their work and the impact that hands on training like this can have on lives." said Stacy Boggs, Paragon's Bioskills Lab Coordinator. Funding for this program was made possible through the generosity of the Parkview Foundation. Paragon Medical offers multi-user discount programs for use of their lab by OEM's and medical professionals, as well as discounts for first-time users and education organizations.
