Paragon Medical Announces Expansions at Two Facilities

Pierceton based Paragon Medical, Inc. announced today that it has expansions in progress at two of its Indiana facilities.

Construction began in late October expanding Paragon's Case & Tray division located on Paragon's Pierceton campus. 20,000 square feet of additional manufacturing space is being added to the existing 50,000 square foot facility to support additional capacity and to establish space to support kitting and future distribution capability. The plan is to begin occupying the new space as early as December of this year with construction being fully completed by March of 2009.

In Indianapolis, at its OMC division, Paragon has begun renovation of existing warehouse space totaling 12,000 square feet. The additional production floor space will be used to support capacity expansion associated with new as well as existing programs.

Pierceton, Indiana - Paragon Medical, Inc. announced today that it has broken ground on a new 55,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Smithfield, Utah. The new facility will increase Paragon's production capacity focused on spine and sports medicine applications while broadening existing prototyping and process development capabilities associated with new product introductions. All operations from the current 32,000 square foot facility will be transferred to the new structure.

With the groundbreaking in Smithfield, Paragon is further demonstrating the company's position as a global leader in supplying world-class solutions for cases and trays, surgical instruments, implantable components and design services and their ongoing commitment to supporting the medical device marketplace through strategic investment. As part of this expansion, Paragon will immediately invest over $1 million in new capital equipment enabling growth in spinal applications and new technologies.

"The new plant in Smithfield is a natural next step for us as we focus on the significant opportunities that exist in spinal and sports medicine applications," said Gary McGill, President and Chief Operating Officer of Paragon. Pierceton, Indiana - Pierceton based Paragon Medical, a market leader in the design, manufacture and supply chain management of implants, instruments and delivery systems for medical device manufacturers, celebrated the inauguration of its new manufacturing operations in Changzhou, China with local officials and customers during a special ceremony on May 9, 2008.

Paragon Medical Device (Changzhou) Co. Ltd., located in GDH Riverside Industrial Park, occupies 2,100 square meters. Initially, 30 employees will work at the site that has been developed to support both foreign and domestic OEM's in China.

"The opening of our facility in Changzhou marks the achievement of an important milestone for Paragon," said Gary McGill, President and COO, Paragon. "China is a key market for our company's strategic growth goals as we expand into Asia, and it's essential in order for us to provide support and service for our growing customer base in the region."

This facility strengthens Paragon's position as a world-wide provider, allows for the repatriation of products where it makes sense and gives Paragon a segue for participation in the domestic Chinese market.

Just like Paragon's other locations, the Changzhou facility will be certified to ISO 13485. In addition, it will be registered with China's SFDA. "In today's market, quality and regulatory compliance are essential. Products manufactured in China will be no different," said McGill. "We want our customers to know that we are taking all necessary steps associated with people, process and equipment to ensure full compliance with industry requirements."

Paragon Medical Enters Into Agreement with Aesculap

(Pierceton, IN) – Paragon Medical, Inc. announced today that it has entered into a reciprocal supply agreement with Aesculap, Inc. for distribution of custom closed sterilization containers systems to the orthopedic medical device community. Aesculap, a subsidiary of B. Braun, is the market leader in reusable rigid container systems used for the packaging, transportation, and storage of instruments. Similarly, Paragon Medical is a market leader in the design, manufacture and supply chain management of custom and standard instrument delivery systems. This cooperative partnership combines two market leaders, addresses an obvious market demand for customized closed sterile containers and expands the portfolio of products and services Paragon is able to provide to the industry.

Under the agreement, Paragon will have marketing and distribution rights to design internalized custom containment solutions utilizing the Aesculap closed sterile container system. The potential now exists for OEM customers to significantly reduce expenses and improve their brand image. “Closed containers have been an integral part of the clinical market for years,” commented Cory Colman, Sr. Executive Vice President for Paragon. “This cost effective alternative satisfies the demands of the OEM’s, the hospitals and Central Service personnel who are requiring closed container solutions be present with the instruments and implants without sacrificing the look and feel of a custom containment system.”
